Despite previous comments by users I feel are a little unfair, this film is one for fans of Basil Rathbone and the Sherlock Holmes series. Rathbone is THE Holmes and this is one of the best of the Universal releases of the period. Ok, the plot can be a little thin at times, all the bodies are identified using circumstancial evidence which wouldn't hold up in court, but be honest, when you watch the film for the first time, who do you think is responsible for the deaths of The Good Comrades? You certainly aren't prepared for the endinaaa! Like The Scarlet Claw and The Hound Of The Baskervilles,the Black and White format compliments the story brilliantly in helping to set the mood, something which later versions of Sherlock Holmes films cannot sadly re-produce. When you watch this film, enjoy it and try not to analyse it too much or you will ruin it for yourself. All in all, a film you can sit down and enjoy again and again.
